the aleph 2020

I wanted to provide the reader with an insight into the experience of time passing by, as time is an inherent part of our lives. I have decided to retell the fiction story ‘The Aleph’ written by Borges using the scientific descriptions of space-time by Stephen Hawking in his book, ‘The brief history of Time’. So, my publication combines these two texts into a reading that communicates the story by Borges in light of Hawking’s take on ‘unity and relativity of space-time’.

To make the reading more intimate, I have decided to use the serif typeface as well as keep the format relatively small. In general the publication gives an impression of a less scientific paper, but reminds of reading someone’s notes on the edges of the page.

When thinking about how to represent the relativity of time, I have used inserts of various sizes. This size difference makes the centrally positioned dot to shift towards the page edge while the pages are being turned.
