Immori 2020

Immori is a society that will be brought together by a poetic campaign that forms a new life-affirming portrayal of death, discussing how the representation of death within literature and popular culture could positively contribute to making our life more meaningful. RSA brief ‘For a Long Time’ was asked to consider how we can encourage people and communities to think and act for the long term? Currently, much of society is not geared up for longer-term thinking.

Individual project: concept research and development, visual identity, design of the social platform.

Premise. The ability to think beyond one’s lifetime implies accepting the idea of our mortality. Perceiving death as a failure creates taboos around the cultural meaning of death and nourishes the fear of it. Death anxiety, when not treated, contributes to tribal thinking and lack of empathy towards dissimilar others.

A1 Poster to promote the society.

The A1 poster is part of the initial campaign to join the society. The text is the poetic writings by Dotoyevsky about what the world would look if we were to forget the idea of immortality.

Young adults are claimed to experience death anxiety the most. Thefore they have become a target audience of the poject. Seeing the public campaign, yong adults will find about the community and will be asked to contribute their understanding of death. The app will bring together a community discussing the life-affirming portrayal of death in literature and popular culture. Accepting mortality means making the first step towards a harmonious, sustainable living with one’s surroundings, and becoming mindful about what remains after us.
